Events & Workshops

Dear Friends of Sir Hans Sloane Centre,

We are glad to be back with our Newsletter after a long Covid induced silence.  At the Centre we continued with the Clive Scoular Conversations in History, Art Class with Patricia Mc Cormick on Zoom and Stand Up, a new programme for teenagers by the Education Authority and Clanbrasil Housing.   The development of the Centre continues so there will be much more to do when Covid finally comes under control.   However for now please come to the Leo Casement Art Exhibition, running from the 12th -24th Dec. Read on for details about the Art Exhibition, Raffle, Poetry Exhibition and other events. We invite you along in a Covid safe way.
The Centre now has a small Gift Shop.  Our range will include all things Hans Sloane related and Chocolates, of course! , children’s science kits and toys, books on local history and Strangford Lough.  However at present we have been donated Conal Montgomery CDs and hand crafted Christmas decorations and gifts for sale.  All proceeds to the Hans Sloane Centre – Thank you to Conal Montgomery and Noreen Cairns.

 Opening Times - The Centre will be open from 12th - 24th Dec .                    10am - 5pm weekdays.

Evenings and Weekends - We aim to be able to be open 6-8pm and 10 - 3pm - times will be updated daily on Facebook. The Centre will be staffed by volunteers during these times and we welcome more volunteer help- see below.

People, Potential and Prosperity

The People, Potential and Prosperity Project about the people of Killyleagh past and present: where have we hailed from, and who amongst us deserves some recognition and celebration.

This local history is being collated by Shirley Lennon of Kenera Consulting and is funded by the European Union as part of the Peace IV project. Thank you to all of you who contributed and the project will be exhibited in the new year.   Such wonderful characters, entrepreneurs and community stalwarts one and all.

Art Classes with Patricia McCormick

Patricia will be back with more lessons in the new year.   A update newsletter before Christmas will showcase some of the artwork produced by this year’s group.
